Temperatures are rising in New York, so maybe it makes sense that buzz about The Strain is steadily heating up. The Strain is the first in a trilogy from maverick director Guillermo Del Toro and Hammett-Award winning author Chuck Hogan. If you enjoyed the glittery vampires of Twilight, you're in for a real surprise with The Strain, which is a truly frightening epic novel about a battle between man and vampire that threatens all humanity. Here's the teaser: a Boeing 777 arrives at JFK and is on its way across the tarmac, when it suddenly stops dead. All window shades are pulled down. All lights are out. All communication channels have gone quiet. Crews on the ground are lost for answers, but an alert goes out to the CDC. Dr. Eph Goodweather, head of their Canary project, a rapid-response team that investigates biological threats, gets the call and boards the plane. What he finds makes his blood run cold. Anxious to find out more? The Strain goes on sale on June 2nd. Later this month we'll have book trailers, and an interactive book website. Until then, pre-order a copy or check out this video of Guillermo Del Toro talking about what inspired him.
I think it's funny that he's been dissing Twilight, since many people associate vampires with that now. He needs to show the Vampires are scary! Crazy! Not just shiny and romantic! (Note: I do actually really like Twilight!)
