Burn this Book

 
In honor of the late Judith Krug, founder of Banned Books Week, I wanted to write about Burn this Book, a provocative collection of essays on censorship and the power of the written word.  Edited by Toni Morrison, Burn this Book features literary heavyweights like Salman Rushdie, Orhan Pamuk, David Grossman and Nadine Gordimer.  Banned Books Week isn’t until September, but you’ll want to make sure you order plenty of copies.  Burn this Book goes on sale on May 16th, and is sure to appeal to 20somethings like me, who love to stir the pot with the subversive power of literature.  Check out the book website, pre-order it, and click here for a fantastic profile on Judith Krug.  Viva la revolucion!

This book is really interesting to me. As a former teacher, (ok I taught for one year, but that still makes me a former teacher!) I celebrated Banned Books Week with my students. They didn't find it nearly as interesting as I did, however they were surprised by some of the books that were chosen throughout the years. I'm excited for this to come out.
